"Stop Seeking People’s Permission To Be You!”
The beautiful woman that God has designed you to be doesn’t require anyone else’s permission. However, to walk out your true purpose requires you to come to terms with whose you are.
Whose are you? The answer is found in Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Paul starts by saying “We are God’s Handiwork.” We are His workmanship, or His masterpiece, or His poetry.
Let that sink in.
We (You). Are. God’s.
In other words, God is the Chief Architect and Designer of YOU. Yes, YOU. You are a beautiful original crafted by the Master’s Hands, and you don’t need anyone else’s permission to be YOU. When we trust the Master Designer, our lives will reflect a beautiful masterpiece—even though we may not always see it right away.
The world encourages us to look to ourselves for identity, so we have a natural tendency to search for our identity in things like our careers, financial success or status, relationships, our appearance, and even other people’s opinions of us.
While these things can give us some sense of identity, the reality is none of them can really give us permanent identity. Any one of those things could change at any moment without warning. Jobs and money can be lost. Relationships can fall apart. We gain weight…gravity sometimes takes over…wrinkles come. And people change. If we have based our identity on those things alone, we set ourselves up for great disappointment.
God, however, never changes. Malachi 3:6 says, “For I am the Lord, I do not change…” Knowing that WE ARE GOD’S and that He Never Changes gives us a solid foundation to build our identity on. As we build on that solid foundation, we will begin to understand that our Identity can only be defined by who He is making us to be.
Prayer: Father God, thank you for being our Designer and Maker. When we feel low and are tempted to seek validation from others, help us to believe your truth. We belong to you and our identify is found in you. Let this truth come alive in our hearts. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
