“A BEACON OF LIGHT CAN LEAD MANY TO SAFETY”
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 KJV
The first light house built around 280 BC stood approximately 450 ft. high. The source of light was a huge opening at its peak and served as a beacon to help guide vessels safely in and out. From the beginning of creation, God had a divine purpose for setting in place the sun, moon, and stars—to shed light upon a dark earth.
Genesis 1:2-3 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light.”
Genesis 1:16-17 “And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.”
Light illuminates and overcomes the darkness. Light generates heat. Light inspires and enlightens. Think about it: We were once alienated, lost in the darkness of sin. Thank God for allowing the light of Christ to penetrate our hearts to become new and beautiful beings created in righteousness.
Reflective Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the sun that is shining on the outside, but most of all thank you for the radiance of your son, Jesus Christ, shining on the inside. Help me to carry the torch of the Gospel everywhere I go. I want to glow like the rays of the sun to be that beacon of light. Amen.
