Pretty Is As Pretty Does

My mother used to always tell me “pretty is as pretty does!” Meaning, it’s the behavior and actions of a person that determines their beauty, not merely the aesthetic. So then, what determines a person’s behavior and actions? What’s in their heart.

“Let your true beauty come from your inner personality, not a focus on the external. For lasting beauty comes from a gentle and peaceful spirit, which is precious in God’s sight and is much more important than the outward adornment of elaborate hair, jewelry, and fine clothes.” 1 Peter 4-3:3

Don’t get me wrong, we should take time to make ourselves pretty on the outside, if that’s what we enjoy. However, we should take more time making sure our hearts are eternally pleasing to God! After all, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. ”Matthew 6:21.
