Save the Date

My dear lover glows with health— red-blooded, radiant! He’s one in a million. There’s no one quite like him! My golden one, pure and untarnished, with raven black curls tumbling across his shoulders. His eyes are like doves, soft and bright, but deep-set, brimming with meaning, like wells of water. His face is rugged, his beard smells like sage, his voice, his words, warm and reassuring. Fine muscles ripple beneath his skin, quiet and beautiful. His torso is the work of a sculptor, hard and smooth as ivory. He stands tall, like a cedar, strong and deep-rooted, a rugged mountain of a man, aromatic with wood and stone. His words are kisses, his kisses words. Everything about him delights me, thrills me through and through! That’s my lover, that’s my man, dear Jerusalem sisters. Song of Solomon 5:10-16 The Message

Phew!! What woman wouldn’t want to have a daily date with that hunk! Well, each woman CAN and SHOULD. There are some things that we do as a daily routine:  wake up – pray – brush teeth – wash - work…etc.  However,  when it comes to a date, that’s not included…it is more of a planned event.

My single ladies may not go on a daily date and my married ladies and her spouse “plan” well ahead when this special event will occur. But as children of God; daughters of the Most High God; and brides of the Bridegroom, we can make every day special and any moment can be a deliberate daily date with the Lord.

I belong to my lover, and He wants me. Song of Solomon 7:10 ERV

It is great to say we love God, but sometimes we just go through the motions to make sure we complete our daily checklist:  do the same thing, in the same place, in the same way. Imagine going on a daily date with your significant other to the same restaurant, ordering the same meal, going to the same movie…boring! Without real enthusiasm, loving God can become boring, uneventful and unexciting because intimate time with God is what brings spice to the relationship!

What is the Solution? Daily dates with God!

God wants us intimately. He even has pet names for us like “Beloved” (Psalm 127:2); and He calls us the “Apple of His Eye.” (Zechariah 2:8)

Think of the dating process with the excitement it can produce each day like:

What will we do today

My lover’s left arm is under my head, and his right arm holds me. Song of Solomon 2:6 ERV

What will we talk about today? (Whisper sweet somethings to Him.)

Cover me with kisses, for your love is better than wine. Your perfume smells wonderful, but your name is sweeter than the best perfume. Song of Solomon 1:2-3 ERV

Where will we go today?

My lover speaks to me, “Get up, my darling, my beautiful one. Let’s go away! Song of Solomon 2:10 ERV

What will I wear today?

Your cheeks are so beautiful with those ornaments hanging beside them. Your neck is so lovely  under that beautiful string of jewels.  Let’s make you some more gold jewelry and decorate it with silver. Song of Solomon 1:10-11 ERV

Prayer:  Father, I realize that anything I put before you will eventually lord over me.  Help me to SAVE THE DATE for intimacy with you.  Amen.
