GOD KNOWS
BY PASTOR KAYLA STRAND
“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.”
— Galatians 4:4-5 (NKJV)
It’s all about timing! Have you ever tried making a Christmas dish by following a family recipe perfectly, and yet it still doesn’t turn out right? You call up your mother or your sister or your aunt and she responds by saying “It’s all in the timing!”
The same is true about the birth of Jesus. Jesus didn’t come too early or too late, but He came right on time. When the world was at its peak, fully prepared and ready, God sent His son, Jesus into the world.
But Jesus didn’t come the way people expected. He was born of a woman, a virgin named Mary. Many believed the child was conceived out of wedlock. Mary’s name and reputation was scorned by many, but not by all. Joseph believed her. Her cousin Elizabeth and Zechariah believed her. And later on, many in her hometown would be asking themselves, “Who is this Man?” They stated: “Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's Son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon? Aren't His sisters here with us?” And they were offended. They expected Jesus to be fully man, but struggled with the fact that He was fully God.
Are you struggling with the plans of God? Are things not turning out the way you expected? Has disaster come when you don’t see any reason for it? Has scorn or heartache or grief hit you when it is supposed to be the most joyous time of the year?
Whatever the unfamiliar or all too familiar feelings may be, trust that God has a plan. God knows what He is doing. Just like the plan of God to send the Messiah in the most unexpected package and in the most unexpected way, God is the God of the unexpected. Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
Prayer: Dear God, I put my trust in You today that You have a plan for me. Thank You that my life and the things that happen do not catch You off guard. You orchestrated my life and hold me in the palm of Your hands. I choose to trust You and follow You each step today.
