What Challenges Can We Experience If We’re Over Aged 60?

Jean: Loss of Fellowship…Loss of Loved Ones

“One of the challenges I've got to myself is the loss of a loved one. And that can really be an emotional and mental challenge for you. The second is not being able to go to church and hear the gospel…our loss of fellowship, that is.

A lot of people don't live near their family or their friends—or they have no access to transportation. So it's hard for them to even have fellowship with other people.

I've got a couple of senior ladies now that we're going to be in contact with because they can't get to church.”

What Resources Do You Encourage Seniors to Seek Out?

Jean: Griefshare group…Senior Adult Ministry

“I understand some people don't have a close knit group of people to partner with them. So Griefshare meeting can be very important.

We also have a group called SAM (senior adult ministry) with monthly meetings that God has raised up. It is fellowship with an active group of seniors. Each month, we have programs relative to seniors, all about Alzheimer's, wills and trust, health and exercise.

”When you can get together with other seniors and fellowship and have fun—that's one of the main reasons you get better in your mental health and emotional health.”

How Has God’s Word Provided You With Encouragement?

Jean: Remembrance of Who We Are In Christ

“Remember who you are. Say ‘I am anointed, talented, strong, healthy’…believe in yourself. We have mental stress because we are longing and we don't believe in ourselves. We don't believe in who God created. And that's what you need—to put your full faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Psalm 139, it says who we were before we were created; God knew who we were before we were placed in our mother's womb. God knew who we were. And then we went into our mother's womb, and he created us to be who we should be.

Verse 14 says,’ I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made’. Hang on to that because you are. You're a child of the most high God.
