Devotionals for Wednesday: August 17

Introduction

As we study the Gospel, we pray for, anticipate, and expect spiritual growth in our lives. To facilitate this spiritual growth, we will use two components. One component is the commitment to attend the Wednesday Bible study from 7 pm-8:15 pm, either on campus in the Worship Center or via Livestream at www.bethelhampton.com. The second component is a set of weekly devotionals that we complete prior to the Wednesday Bible study.

The questions listed below are for you to answer and reflect upon as you study the chapter for this week. We suggest that you take at least four or five days each week for this personal devotional.

Devotional Week 2 - Created for Relationship
Focus: Family Relationships

Note:  If possible, a husband and wife should spend time together to attempt to complete these devotionals as a couple!

Day 1 – Read Genesis 2:24

1.      What are the two things a husband should do?

2.     What will happen when a man does these two things?

3.     Has your marriage experienced this?

Days 2, 3, and 4 – Read Ephesians 5:21-33

1.     What should husband and wife both do? See Ephesians 5:21.

2.     What does that submission look like for the wife? Ephesians 5:22-24

3.     What does that submission look like for the husband? Ephesians 5:25-31

4.     Why do you suppose Paul gives a lot more attention to what submission looks like for the husband than for the wife?

5.     What is Paul’s concluding instruction for the husband and wife? Ephesians 5:33

6.     Discuss with your partner how your relationship compares with this biblical instruction.

7.     Strategize and agree on what needs to change to come in line with this biblical instruction.

Day 5 – Read 1 Peter 3:1-7

1.     How does Peter instruct both husband and wife to live in submission one to another?

2.     Compare Peter’s instruction with that of Paul.  How are they similar and how are they different?
