GOD WITH US

BY PASTOR KAYLA STRAND

“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
— Isaiah 9:6 (NKJV)

Jesus was powerful from infancy. From birth, He was called King of the Jews by the wise men, and greatly troubled King Herod, and all who were with him in Jerusalem. King Herod plotted to kill the Baby, but he did not know who he was dealing with. God warned Joseph to flee to Egypt and baby Jesus was saved.

From birth, He was called the Savior of the world and the shepherds left in a hurry to seek Him. They were thirsty and longing to see the long-awaited Messiah. They longed to find the One who had brought a great company of angels to announce His birth. They knew He was no ordinary Child, and they had to see Him.

As we reflect on the birth of Jesus, how would you describe the newborn King? The writer Isaiah prophesied, His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

 From birth, Jesus was the Prince of Peace that rules and reigns over the chaos and storms of the world. He is Wonderful Counselor and our source of peace. He is Mighty, Conqueror, and Infinitely God. He came into the world as a gentle, small baby. But He also came into the world as Emmanuel – God with us.

So the next time you look at the manager scene, let the power and majesty of this newborn Jesus sink in. How will you see the Christmas story differently because of this?

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son. Thank You for making Him human, so He could rescue and redeem us from human’s natural bondage to sin. Thank You for sending Him as fully God, so that we could experience God with us. I am also so grateful for Jesus’ birth and sacrifice. Thank You for your lovingkindness and for Your special gift on that not-so silent night.
