TRAVEL PLANS

BY PASTOR CHARLES RICKS, JR.

Scripture Reading: Matthew 2:3-6

The holiday season is among the busiest travel periods of the year. Despite being in a pandemic, reports show that travel experts still expect an increase in travel. Visiting family and friends is the single biggest reason Americans travel during the holidays and a personal vehicle is the most utilized method of travel. Many will be traveling to see family and friends for the first time since quarantines began.

Bethlehem was the travel destination of the wise men who came from the East. Most scholars assume that they came from Persia and may have traveled close to 1,000 miles. What’s remarkable about the wise men’s trip is unlike today’s travel options of automobiles, planes, and trains, these men more than likely traveled by foot! They also didn't have the luxury of GPS, but instead relied on a bright, shining star to lead them. This had to be a difficult and trying journey; however, the purpose of their travel was more important than the journey itself. They were not merely traveling to visit family or friends, but to worship the newborn King!

Sometimes the roads we travel are not easy and are full of challenges and difficulties; yet the promise that will be fulfilled at the completion of the journey makes it worthwhile. As the wise men had the star to guide them, we have the Holy Spirit sent from the Father to guide us along our life’s journey. The Holy Spirit is our helper, comforter and teacher who leads us into all truth.

As you travel life's journey, are you trusting the Holy Spirit as your helper, comforter, teacher and guide? He will navigate you safely to your destination.

Prayer: Dear Jesus, please help us to remember that You are for us and not against us to give us a future and a hope.
